The Markenverband is a registered association for the representation of interests of the brand economy in Germany with seat in Berlin. It was founded in 1903 and today has around 400 members from the brand-oriented consumer and durable goods industry and the service economy .

The main focus of work is the protection of intellectual property and the fight against brand and product piracy as well as the strengthening of performance competition and the development of trademark law and trademark administration, etc. a.

history

The association was founded in 1903 by Johann Maria Friedrich Heimann (first chairman of the association), August Oetker , Gustav Pielenz and Fritz Henkel in Berlin . Since 2007, after more than 50 years based in Wiesbaden, it has been back in Berlin.

Every two years since 1980, the Markenverband e. V. as well as the Society for Research on Brands e. V. (G · E · M) awarded. The foundation of this oldest German award for brand management and brand research by the brand association took place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the brand association in 1978.

Since 2010, the association has been awarding the consumer journalist prize, which is under the patronage of former Federal President Roman Herzog , to three winners every year .

Since 2017, the association has also been one of the founders of the Central Packaging Register Foundation (ZSVR) in accordance with Section 24 of the Packaging Act , based in Osnabrück .

The Organization Advertisers in the Brand Association (OWM) was formed to represent the interests of the advertising industry .
