Markam ( Tibetan སྨར་ ཁམས་ རྫོང་ Wylie smar khams rdzong , also Markham Dzong ; Chinese  芒康 县 , Pinyin Mángkāng Xiàn ) is a district in the far east of the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China . It belongs to the administrative area of ​​the city of Qamdo . The district has an area of ​​11,575.97 square kilometers and has 75,512 inhabitants. The main town is the municipality of Gartog ( 嘎托 镇 ). Tibetans , Han Chinese , Naxi , Bai , Tu , Hui and Miao live in Markam .
