Market 16

The house market 16 is a listed residential and commercial building in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located on the west side of the city's market square. The house at Markt 15 borders to the south and the house at Marktstrasse 1, which is also a listed building, to the north . In the Quedlinburg monument register it is registered as a residential and commercial building.

architecture

The building was built in 1895 at the transition from Marktstrasse to Markt. In 1894 the company Ihlefeldt und Kramer, which operated a furniture and exhibition hall in the neighboring house at Marktstrasse 1 , acquired the property at Markt 16 and had the remains of the former Ratskeller torn down. The town hall cellar , which dates from 1500, was demolished in 1860.

The facade is representative in a historicist style. Stucco, clinker and plaster sections alternate as design elements. On the left there is a passage through the building, which is emphasized by a gable located here . A small oriel tower to the right of it is striking . Above the entrance to the house is the old Quedlinburg coat of arms, which was originally located on the Ratskeller. The intricate initials RI for Robert Ihlefeldt and WK for Wilhelm Kramer can be found on the wrought-iron gate grilles .

For almost 400 years, from its destruction in 1477 to its reconstruction in 1869, the rubble of the Quedlinburg Roland lay on the grounds of the Ratskeller.
