Karjamaa is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Alutaguse ( Alajõe until 2017 ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village on the north bank of Lake Peipsi ( Peipsi järv ) has 32 inhabitants (as of 2009). The stream of the same name ( Karjamaa oja ) flows through Karjamaa . It's twelve kilometers long.

The village used to be called Võgana. It was first mentioned in a document in 1426. In 1732 it belonged to the Sompa estate , but was uninhabited. Fifty years later, thirteen families lived there. By 1835 the population rose to 38 families.
