The Lohgerberhaus is a listed half-timbered house in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt . The half-timbered building, built around 1660, was used as a guild house for tanners between 1763 and 1808 and as a hotel since 1993.

Location and use

The building registered in the Quedlinburg monument register is at the address Markt 14 , at the corner of the confluence of Hohen Straße with the market of the city of Quedlinburg. In part, the neighboring half-timbered building Markt 13 is also included in the complex of the tanner's house. Both buildings are operated jointly as Hotel Theophano and represent a particularly striking part of the market in the old town of Quedlinburg. A little further north of the houses is the also listed building at Markt 15 .

Architecture and history

The Markt 14 building was built around 1660 in the early Baroque style. The house is covered by an imposing half- hip roof . The framework has pyramid beam heads as well as parapet and corner struts . The three-storey wing of the building, standing on the eaves facing Hohen Strasse, was built in the first half of the 17th century and has forms from the late Renaissance . The baptismal rod and beam heads are found here in the shape of a cylinder . In the largely overbuilt courtyard there is a small brick vault with a herringbone bond .

1763 been the home of the guild of tanners purchased and then used as a guild house for meetings and business deals. This use explains the name of the building.

The south adjoining four-story half-timbered house Markt 13 was built by Hans Rühle as a merchant's house in 1668 according to a building inscription . It is one of the largest and most important half-timbered houses in the city and shows the early phase of the so-called Quedlinburg style . The framework is characterized by pyramid beam heads , ship throats and profiled filler wood . The red facade has a two-story bay window on the left. The remains of three loading hatches can be found on the second and third floors and in the mid-house . This building is also said to have been part of the guild house of the tanners.

The Kurt Schultze laundry and linen house was set up in 1924 and operated until it was nationalized in 1952. In 1991 the family got back the building, which was in dire need of renovation. Between 1991 and 1993 the houses were renovated and converted into a hotel with 22 rooms, which opened in 1993. In 2002 the Café Theophano was set up in house Markt 13 . The hotel is in the book 1,000 Places To See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz listed.
