Katherine Kath
Katherine Kath (born August 11, 1920 in Berck ; † November 17, 2012 ; actually Rose Marie Nelly Faess ) was a French theater and film actress .
Life
Katherine Kath was born in 1920 as Rose Marie Nelly Faess and the fifth child of Adrien Faess and Alix Caserbo in the French seaside resort of Berck . At a young age she took ballet lessons. However, due to an ankle injury, she had to give up her dream of becoming a prima ballerina at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . Then she decided to switch to acting. In the 1940s and 1950s she had several successes at the theater, especially in plays by Jean Anouilh , such as Antigone or Invitation to the Castle or The Art of Playing the Game ( Invitasion au Chateau). In Paris in 1949 she also appeared in Henri Bernstein's play La Soif with Jean Gabin .
In 1947 she stood in front of the film camera for the first time for the French production Capitaine Blomet . Other roles in the film followed, such as in John Huston's A Song from Paris (1952) alongside José Ferrer and Zsa Zsa Gabor . Jack Clayton , the film's co-producer, later became her husband, but she divorced.
In 1956 she was seen at the side of Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner in Anastasia . She also starred in Gigot, the mute from Montmartre (1962), directed by Gene Kelly . Two years later she played the quick-witted servant of a Hamburg hostel in Circus-Welt (1964) alongside John Wayne , Rita Hayworth and Claudia Cardinale . In 1971 she played Catherine de Medici in Maria Stuart, Queen of Scotland alongside Vanessa Redgrave , who played the title role.
She also appeared frequently on British television from 1957 to 1990 . She then retired from show business and lived in London . She died in 2012 at the age of 92.
