Markus Dürr

Markus Dürr (born May 1, 1947 in Gams ; entitled to live in Gams and Malters ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). From 1999 to 2009 he was a member of the government of the Canton of Lucerne .

biography

Dürr was born as one of twelve children of the farmer, innkeeper and St. Gallic CVP national councilor Andreas Dürr . He grew up in Gams, completed the Matura Type C at the Cantonal School of St. Gallen , studied veterinary medicine at the University of Bern and graduated with a state examination and doctorate . He has lived in Malters since 1977, where he ran a veterinary practice for large and small livestock until 1999.

From 1987 to 1996, Dürr was mayor of Malters. From 1999 he was a member of the Lucerne government council and headed the health and social affairs department. In 2008 he was President of the Government (formerly Schultheiss ). At the beginning of May 2009 he announced his resignation at the end of 2009. From the election of September 27, 2009, Guido Graf emerged as Dürr's successor.

From 2014 to 2017 Dürr was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (Suva), succeeding Franz Steinegger , who was retiring.

Dürr is married and has four children.
