biography

The trained carpenter won World Cup points for the first time on December 21, 1999, finishing 24th in the slalom in Kranjska Gora . His strongest seasons were in 2000/01 and 2001/02 , when he achieved a few placements in the top fifteen - including his best World Cup result, a 12th place in the Shigakogen slalom . He finally finished the 2001/2002 World Cup as a good 28th in the slalom discipline. He also tried his hand at giant slalom , but never reached the final of the 30 best runners.

However, he was unable to match the good performance, and numerous failures and non-qualifications followed. After the 2003/2004 season, Markus Ganahl ended his active skiing career.

Ganahl took part in three World Ski Championships ( Vail 1999 , St. Anton 2001 and St. Moritz 2003 ) and the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City . At the Olympic Games he reached 30th place in the giant slalom, his best placement at a World Cup was 20th in the slalom in St. Anton am Arlberg in 2001.
