Markus Hauser (born May 5, 1849 in Trasadingen ; † December 12, 1900 in Zurich ) was a Swiss preacher and pastor, he was one of the well-known personalities of the sanctification and evangelization movement.

Life

Markus Hauser, the son of a cooper and later village Weibel and his wife Maria Glinz, spent the early childhood in the family home. Because of the divorce he came to the children's home "Friedeck" in Buch SH at the age of 10 . After a period of depression and even thoughts of suicide, he experienced his conversion, about which he himself wrote: “The night was over, my sins were erased, ... the Lord dried my tears. My prayers were answered. Jesus lives, Jesus loves me, that was now clear to me. ”After school he worked for a while in a nursery in Basel, then in a bookshop. In Basel, he applied as a pupil at the St. Chrischona pilgrimage organization . After the probationary period he was dismissed because of his poor eyesight, but because of the intercession of Inspector Carl Heinrich Rappard he was allowed to stay.

After four years of training as a preacher and evangelist, he began his preaching service in Mattwil near Sulgen ( Canton Thurgau ) in 1872 . In 1878 Hauser was transferred to Reinach ( Canton Aargau ). There the Chrischona congregation grew strongly under his leadership. In 1887 Hauser began a seven-year service in Frauenfeld on the decision of the pilgrim mission .

In 1894 Hauser moved to Zurich with his family. There he founded his own association with Samuel Zeller , which inaugurated the so-called Bethel Chapel with a hall for 1,600 people in October 1899.

His health deteriorated from February 1900 and forced the 51-year-old to quit work completely. Hauser died on December 12, 1900.

Hauser made an impact not only through his sermons and lectures, but also through articles and books that were reprinted into the second half of the 20th century.
