Samuel Zeller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samuel Heinrich Ansgar Zeller (born April 9, 1834 in Beuggen , † April 18, 1912 in Männedorf ) was a Swiss missionary and director of the institution.

Life

Samuel Zeller is a son of Christian Heinrich Zeller , who together with Christian Friedrich Spittler founded the school for the poor at Beuggen Castle . The oldest known ancestor is a Konrad, who was master builder and stonemason in Martinszell near Kempten (Allgäu) around 1500 . One of his ancestors was Andreas Christoph Zeller, who was friends with the Pietist father August Hermann Francke .

Samuel Zeller lived from 1851 to 1852 for almost two years in a large boys' institute in Payerne . Among other things, he worked for three years as a seminar teacher in Schiers (today the Evangelical Middle School in Schiers ) and as a teacher in Beuggen. Due to an illness he came to the Christian institution in Männedorf in 1857 , where he learned healing through prayer and worked there. After the death of the founder Dorothea Trudel in 1862, he took over the management of the institution, where he also worked as a pastor. The sanatorium (now the Bibelheim) was an important place of the pietistic revival movement of the 19th century, where many spiritual leaders also found relaxation.

Samuel Zeller had an extraordinary spiritual charisma and had a positive influence on many people. The Bible studies he held were based on the Bible and Jesus Christ and at the same time grounded with a lot of down to earth.
