Markus "Mecki" Katzer (born December 11, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian soccer player and, after his contract with FC Admira Wacker Mödling was not renewed in the summer of 2015, has been playing in defense for the regional league club First Vienna FC since June 23, 2015 .

Career

Markus Katzer played for ASK Erlaa in his youth and began his professional career in 2001 with VfB Admira Wacker Mödling . In the southern part of the city, the defender matured into a national player and made his international debut on August 20, 2003 in a 2-0 win over Costa Rica . He has been playing for SK Rapid Vienna since 2004 . His greatest successes were winning the Austrian championship twice in 2004/05 and 2007/08 and getting into the main round of the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League .

Although Markus Katzer seldom got a chance under Josef Hickersberger , he was called up on May 28, 2008 for the Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship . The team boss justified his decision with the words: “I only took him with me because I wanted to show him that, although he was unlucky with injuries and illnesses, he is part of the national team.” Katzer fell in 2007/08 due to a torn cruciate ligament and appendicitis for most of the season. The injury Series continued in the 2008-09 season, when the defenders twice the outer band in the ankle tear, as well as twice the scaphoid at the hand broke. In March 2013, SK Rapid announced that it would not extend Katzer's contract. It is therefore certain that he will no longer play at SK Rapid Wien from summer 2013.

He was in a relationship with the daughter of Hans Krankl , the two have a daughter who was born on August 31, 2008. He has been married to Sue Reichard since March 22, 2012. Their son was born on October 7, 2012.

On August 6, it was announced that Katzer was moving to his home club FC Admira Wacker Mödling .

On June 23, 2015 it was announced that Katzer's contract with Admira will not be extended any further. On the same day, First Vienna FC announced Katzer's commitment.
