Thomas Burgstaller (born January 9, 1980 in Linz ) is an Austrian football player on the position of a defender .

Career

Burgstaller began his career as a youth player at SK St. Magdalena before moving to third division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz in the summer of 2000 . In 2003 he celebrated the championship title in the regional league middle with the Linzers , but missed promotion to the second-class first league in the relegation games against BSV Bad Bleiberg .

In the summer of 2003, Thomas Burgstaller moved to Rapid Vienna. In his first season in the Bundesliga, he made 19 appearances for the Austrian record champions and scored two goals. In the following 2004/05 season he celebrated his first Austrian championship title with Rapid, but tore a cruciate ligament in the cup final against FK Austria Wien and was out of action for a long time due to the injury. In May 2007, Burgstaller's contract at Rapid was not extended, he switched to cooperation partner FC Lustenau 07 . At the end of the 2007/2008 season he moved to SV Ried on a free transfer and was there under contract for two seasons.

On May 6, 2010, Sturm Graz announced the commitment of the central defender. Burgstaller signed a two-year contract in Graz with an option for a third year. At the end of the season he was Austrian football champion for the second time since 2005. In the summer of 2012, Burgstaller moved to Kapfenberger SV , who was relegated to the Bundesliga at the time , where he was employed as a regular from the start, but after he only played as a substitute in one game and only sat unused on the bench in the two following games, he tore a muscle fiber. After the resulting knee operation, Burgstaller left the game for almost half a year and then did not return to his old form from April 2013. After he mostly only had to sit on the bench without a bet, three short assignments followed, which together lasted no more than ten minutes. In the season's final game against SCR Altach , the veteran was again used by coach Klaus Schmidt for the full duration of the game and then left the club for Tyrol , where he was hired by the regional division SC Schwaz in the third-class Regionalliga West .

There the central defender reappeared as a regular and made sixth place in the final ranking with the Schwazers, who had just been promoted from the regional league , whereby he himself made 26 league appearances and scored one goal. In the following 2014/15 season , Burgstaller also acted as a regular in the defensive row of his team and again made 26 championship appearances, this time contributing four goals and finishing in tenth place with the team in the sometimes quite dense final table. In the summer break before the start of the 2015/16 season , the defensive line changed clubs again and came to SU Inzing , a Tyrolean sixth division team, with play in the regional league West .
