Markus Mappus
Markus Mappus (also Marc Mapp , Marcus Mappus , Marc Mappus , Marco Mappo or Marci Mappi ; born October 28, 1632 in Strasbourg , HRR ; † August 9, 1701 ibid) was an Alsatian doctor and university professor .
Life
Mappus studied medicine first at the University of Strasbourg , then at the University of Padua . After his return from Padua he was first promoted to Dr. med. PhD . He then completed his habilitation there as a general practitioner.
He was in Strasbourg Associate Professor of Botany , and later to the chair of practical medicine called . He was also appointed canon at the St. Thomas Church in Strasbourg.
He was an avid representative of ancient Greek medicine, especially the teachings of Hippocrates of Kos and Galenus .
