Markus Tiwald

Markus Tiwald (* 1966 in Güssing ) is an Austrian Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1986 to 1993 he studied Catholic theology in Vienna and Lyon ( diploma thesis submitted to Jacob Kremer in Vienna on the topic: “Passus sub Pontio Pilato: The Pilate Image in the Light of Recent Research”. Graduation as a Master of Theology on December 14, 1993). After ordination in 1994, then a chaplain year in Maria Enzersdorf near Vienna ( incardination in the Archdiocese of Vienna ), he completed a licentiate degree from 1995 to 1998 at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum with a focus on biblical languages, Jewish studies and biblical archeology. Licensed thesis submitted to Frédéric Manns on the topic: “The disciple who remains until the coming of the Lord: Self-understanding and teaching method of the“ Johannine School ”- demonstrated on six paradigmatic pericopes of the Gospel of John.” Completed on February 3, 1998 with the title “Licentiatus in S. Theologia cum Specializatione Biblica “(magna cum laude). From 1997 to 2007 he was university assistant at the Institute for New Testament Biblical Studies at the University of Vienna . After completing his doctorate in 2001 with distinction as a doctor of theology in Vienna. Dissertation submitted to Roman Kühschelm on the topic: "Wandering radicalism: Jesus' first disciples - a beginning and what remains of it". From 2001 to 2007 he was deputy chairman of the ArgeAss (working group of biblical assistants in Austria) and member of the board of trustees of the Austrian Catholic Biblical Works.

From 2001 to 2010 he trained as a psychotherapist . Completion of training on May 17, 2010, since then a full member of the "Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis" (succeeding Viktor Frankl). In 2005 he taught in a blocked semester event as a visiting professor at the Pontificia Università Antonianum on the subject: “La nuova ricerca sul Gesù storico: Concetti di Gesù - concetti della chiesa primitiva”. From 2005 to 2009 he was a columnist for the second largest Austrian daily newspaper (“ Kurier ”): he wrote the Sunday column “Thoughts”, in which biblical and religious content is communicated to a wider audience.

After his habilitation in 2007 for the subject “New Testament Biblical Studies” at the Catholic-Theological Faculty Vienna by unanimous vote of the habilitation committee, he taught from 2007 to 2008 as a private lecturer at the University of Vienna and at the “ Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule Wien ” and was a pastor in Floridsdorf . In 2008 he took over the substitute professorship for the subject "Biblical Theology and its Didactics / Focus on New Testament" at the University of Duisburg-Essen . In 2009 he was appointed university professor for "Biblical theology and its didactics / focus on the New Testament" in Duisburg - Essen . In 2012 he was elected to the board of the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute for German-Jewish History at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2018 he was elected to the Senate of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
