He dealt with natural sciences, especially botany , and taught at Victoria College , which later became the University of Stellenbosch . He wrote several botanical books and died in South Africa in 1931. A very common plant was named after him: the aloe marlothii . history
In 1977 the "Marloth Park Holiday Township " was officially proclaimed. A “Crocodile River Holiday Township and Nature Reserve” already existed at this point. The land used to belong to a few farmers who made their houses available to travelers to stay overnight. The Marloth Park area was intended as a “stop-over”: before the civil war in Mozambique began in 1977, the then capital Lourenço Marques (now Maputo ) was a popular destination for South African tourists. They were often late to cross the border between South Africa and Mozambique before closing at 10 p.m. For these tourists, the area in Marloth Park was ideal for overnight stays.
Marloth Park was opened in 1972 as a holiday township. Much of the park remained untouched. There are no fences inside the park. The gardens remained in their original state. Marloth Park is separated from Kruger National Park by a fence and the Crocodile River . Within the park there are giraffes , wildebeest , kudu, zebras , impalas , bushbucks , warthogs , baboons , green monkeys as well as other small game and a diverse bird life. Lions sometimes come to the village.
