Marlyn Glen (* 1951 in Dundee ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Glen attended the Kirkton High School in Dundee and then studied education, special education and psychology at the University of St Andrews , the University of Dundee and the Open University . She then worked as an English teacher in Liverpool , at the Ravenspark Academy in Irvine and the Baldragon Academy in Dundee.

Political career

In 1993, Glen was elected to Dundee City Council. After the resignation of the Labor politician and MP for the constituency of Dundee East John McAllion , Glen was initially intended as the successor for the 2001 general election , but was then replaced by Iain Luke . In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Glen was placed second on the Labor Party's regional electoral list for the electoral region of North East Scotland . As a result of the election results, however, she did not receive any of the seven list mandates and thus missed the entry into the newly created Scottish Parliament . For the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2003 , Glen was placed first on the regional electoral list and won a list mandate for the electoral region for the first time. In the following parliamentary elections in 2007 , she defended her mandate. After Glen announced that she would not run for the 2011 general election, she resigned from parliament at the end of the parliamentary term.
