Marnie Stern (born March 18, 1976 ) is an American musician , composer , guitarist and lives in New York City . She is especially admired for the technique of her guitar playing ( tapping ).

Career

In early 2007 Marnie Stern released her first CD, In Advance of the Broken Arm, on the Kill Rock Stars label . It has been well received by critics, most notably The New York Times , which called it "The year's most exciting rock 'n' roll album".

In mid-2007 she toured the United States and the United Kingdom with the band Hella , Zach Hill and The Advantage to promote her debut CD.

In the spring 2008 edition of Venus Magazine , Stern was named one of the “Greatest Female Guitarists Of All Time”. At the 2008 Plug Music Awards she was also nominated for “Female Artist Of The Year” and “Punk Album Of The Year”.

Marnie Stern's second music album , This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That , was released on October 7, 2008 on Kill Rock Stars . Immediately after its release, it received the award as “Best New Music” and number 44 of the “50 Best Albums Of 2008” by Pitchfork Media .

Stern toured Europe and the United States with This Is It along with Mark Shippy , former US Maple guitarist , bassist Malia James, and various drummers .
