Marquess of Cholmondeley ( [ˈtʃʌmli] ) is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The family's ancestral home is Houghton Hall and Cholmondeley Castle .

Award and subordinate titles

George Cholmondeley, 1st Marquess of Cholmondeley

The title was created on November 22, 1815 for George James Cholmondeley, 4th Earl of Cholmondeley , who had served the crown for many years , including as Lord Steward . Together with the marquess title, he was also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, the subordinate title Earl of Rocksavage , in the County Palatine of Chester , bestowed.
