Marquis Rafael Merry del Val

Marquis Rafael Merry del Val (* 1831 in Aragon ; † August 30, 1917 ) was Ambassador Alfonso XII from October 10, 1865 to June 24, 1897 . at the court of Queen Victoria .

Life

The Del Vals were Norman crusaders from England who settled in Aragon in the 12th century . The Merry were merchants from County Waterford who settled in Seville in the late 18th century.

Marquis Rafael Merry del Val was married to Sofia Josefa de Zulueta († 1925), the daughter of Pedro José de Zulueta .

Her sons were Pedro, Rafael Merry del Val , Domingo Merry del Val y Zulueta and Alfonso Merry del Val y Zulueta .

Marquis Rafael Merry del Val was ambassador to the Holy See and to Vienna.
