Marta von Meyenburg

Marta von Meyenburg (born November 10, 1882 in Dresden ; † March 10, 1972 Oberrieden ; entitled to live in Schaffhausen ) was a Swiss social worker and founder and director of the Zurich Social School for Women from the Canton of Zurich .

Life

Marta von Meyenburg was a daughter of Victor von Meyenburg . She attended the Swiss School of Nursing in Zurich . Afterwards she worked for the official guardianship of Zurich. From 1910 she worked as a director of welfare courses for women. Meyenburg founded the Zurich Social School for Women together with her partner Maria Fierz . As their first headmistress, she built up the professional training of social workers from 1921 to 1934 and promoted the professionalization of female care work. In 1914 she was a co-founder of the women's headquarters in Zurich . Until 1947 she sat on their board . From 1934 to 1957 she was a board member of the Swiss School of Nursing in Zurich. She worked for intellectual national defense in the civilian women's service (FHD). In 1945 she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich .
