Murder 4 Hire is the fourth studio album by the US crossover formation Body Count , released in 2006 by Escapi Music . After the death of three founding members, the album was recorded with a completely new line-up, with the exception of Ice-T and Ernie C. Like its predecessor Violent Demise: The Last Days from 1994, however, it could not come close to the successes of the debut album Body Count and Born Dead .

background

Murder 4 Hire was released in 2006, nine years after the last album Violent Demise: The Last Days . With the exception of Ice-T and the guitarist Ernie C , it was recorded with a completely new band, the other three founding members have died in recent years. Here, the drummer died Beatmaster V already at the end of the recording of Violent Demise: The Last Days of leukemia and former bassist Mooseman that after the release of Born Dead had left the band in 2001 in a shootout in passing in South Central Los Angeles killed as not involved. The guitarist D-Roc also died in August 2004 of cancer. As a new line-up, the musicians Bendrix played the second guitar, Vincent Price the electric bass and OT the drums.

Body Count were live in 2004 and railed against the then President George W. Bush , to whom they dedicated the song Dirty Bombs . In 2006 the band first released a recording of a legendary performance at the Californian Smoke Out Festival 2003, where they did not break off their gig despite repeated requests. Shortly afterwards, in spring 2006, the DVD Live In LA was released with new material. At the end of July of that year Murder 4 Hire was released as the latest studio album. As on the previous albums, the band relied on an aggressive crossover style of hardcore rap and heavy metal . With the song D Rocs (RIP) the album contains an instrumentally played memento of the deceased bandmate and Mr. C's theme was also recorded purely instrumentally.

resonance

Murder 4 Hire was not successful internationally and could not place itself in the charts, neither in the Billboard 200 nor in other national charts.

As with its predecessors, Murder 4 Hire also criticized the lack of creativity. Allmusic.com describes the album accordingly: "Though the album took nine years to complete, coming to a standstill with the 2004 death of guitarist D-Roc the Executioner, the show went on with almost zero evolution from their hackneyed '90s output." ("Although it took nine years to complete the album and stalled with the death of guitarist D-Roc the Executioner in 2004, the show barely evolved from its hackneyed production from the 90s.") The criticism continues and describes the music as "so confused that it is ridiculous". laut.de wrote about the alum: “Although brand new, the work takes you on a journey back in time to the deepest 90s: Nothing, absolutely nothing, has changed in the once still fresh concept, the combination of hip hop with metal guitars that tear nerves. Even Ice T later stated that he was not happy with the result because he had shown too little interest in the band during the creation process. " In its review of the album Bloodlust 2017, Visions magazine declared Murder 4 Hire to be an" artistic low point ". In 2006, the review for Murder 4 Hire from the same magazine read: “You are rumbling your way through twelve bony rap-metal chunks about pain, crime and loads of motherfuckers. Unmotivated, they rummage through a large pile of gangsta shit, with a terribly sapless sound and stupid songwriting. Again and again "BC" ram head-on against the wall at the end of the cul-de-sac into which they maneuvered more than ten years ago. One consolation: In the old people's home for toothless 90s heroes, Body Count are not alone. ”The last sentence refers to the band Dog Eat Dog , who released the album Walk with Me at the same time .
