Violent Demise: The Last Days is the third studio album by the US crossover formation Body Count , which was released in 1997 on Virgin Records . As with its predecessors, the band again used the well-known aggressive mix of hardcore rap and heavy metal . However, the album could hardly prevail and only reached a chart position in Germany.

background

Violent Demise: The Last Days was released in 1997, three years after the last album Born Dead . The bassist Mooseman had left the band after the previous album and was replaced by Griz. The drummer Beatmaster V suffered from leukemia and died before the album was finished. He was assisted by Jonathon James as back-up drummer, a relative of Beatmaster V, and due to his death the release date had to be postponed to 1997. It was released on Virgin Records , with which the band still had a record deal at the time.

Musically, the band again relied on an aggressive crossover style of hardcore rap and heavy metal , provocation such as Cop Killer or even titles with hit characters such as Born Dead were missing. Only I Used To Love Her , a settlement with OJ Simpson , became better known through the album. In addition, the band engaged in Dr. K. with the doctor Jack Kevorkian , who became known for his fight for the "right to die" and who, according to his own statements , has supported more than 130 people in their suicide .

The album cover shows the hand signals of the warring gangs Bloods and Crips , which form the letters "BC" as the band's initials.

Violent Demise: The Last Days
  DE 45 March 24, 1997 (1 week)

Violent Demise: The Last Days was not very successful internationally and could only be in the charts for one week in Germany. It entered the German album charts at number 45 on March 24, 1997 , but left the Top 100 again the following week. The album could not be placed in the Billboard 200 and the album did not appear in other charts.

As with the predecessor Born Dead , the new and creative was missing in Violent Demise: The Last Days : laut.de described the alum as follows: “The third album does not deviate from the direction of its predecessors and does not bring any fresh wind to the genre . What used to be revolutionary now looks old-fashioned and causes nothing more than a yawn for many. This album also ekes out its existence in record stores largely unnoticed by the public. ”The criticism of the magazine Visions is very direct . In it, the reviewer Thorsten Zahn advises the band, which he describes as “musically on the level of a third-rate thrash metal student combo”, to stop: “Even the entertainment value of the politically completely incorrect BC jokes is no longer good for fifty pennies. Ice-T should just stop playing the robber and gendarme games, rather produce a good hip-hop record like "VI" or put his feet up. "

Allmusic.com confirmed the album, however, a further development compared to its predecessor. After the analysis, the material is more fiery and pointed and the lyrics are more aggressive and oscillate between “indignation” and “insolence”. This is particularly noticeable with I used to Love her and "Dead Man Walking", but with You're F ** kin 'with BC the band would "drive their self-portraying chants to ridiculous extremes."
