Body Count is an American band founded in 1990 by the rapper Ice-T , which achieved fame especially for its innovation at the time, combining elements of hip-hop with elements of heavy metal and hardcore punk . The lyrics of the first album, especially the lyrics to Cop Killer , caused controversy in their home country.
history
In 1992, the song Body Count appeared on Ice-T's album Original Gangster , with which the band also achieved great recognition in hip-hop circles. Together with the musicians Ernie C (Ernie Cunnigan, guitar ), D-Roc (Dennis Miles, guitar), Mooseman (Lloyd Roberts III, electric bass ) and Beatmaster V (Victor Ray Wilson, drums ), Ice-T released the debut album in 1992 Body Count , which was particularly noticeable because of the then modern mix of hip-hop and hard rock as well as the public criticism of the song Cop Killer . For a long time, the lyrics brought negative headlines and accusations of condoning violence against police officers to the band. In detail, the text refers to the black US citizen Rodney King , who was abused by white police officers in the same year. This song was the trigger for the termination of the record deal between Body Count and the Warner Music Group a few months later.
The album Born Dead , released in 1994 on the Priority Records label , brought average commercial success, but could not set new accents in terms of content. In addition, the lyrics were missing extreme songs that made the first album so well known. Bassist Mooseman also left the band shortly after Born Dead was released.
Despite this, the album Violent Demise: The Last Days was released in 1997 - delayed by the death of the drummer Beatmaster V - but, like its predecessor, it did not bring any innovations and turned out to be a commercial failure. Ex-bassist Mooseman was shot dead on the street in 2000. Guitarist D-Roc succumbed to cancer in August 2004.
In 2005 Ice-T reformed the band. Cast: Singer / frontman Ice-T , lead guitarist Ernie C, OT (drums), Bendrix ( rhythm guitar ) and Vincent Price (bass). In 2006 the album Murder 4 Hire was released , one stage of the tour also took the band to Germany in August.
In 2011, Body Count participated in the soundtrack of the video game Gears of War 3 , after Ice-T had already presented the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 in Los Angeles together with the developers of Epic Games . An excerpt from the song The Gears of War can be heard for the first time in the gameplay trailer Horde 2.0: Five against all .
In 2014, Manslaughter was the band's first album since Murder 4 Hire, which was released in 2006 . The album Manslaughter was positively received by reviewers.
The sixth studio album Bloodlust was released at the end of March 2017 . About the song “ No Lives Matter ”, Ice-T said that the clear message of the Black Lives Matter movement was put into perspective by “All Lives Matter” messages. In the matter of fact it is correct to name other marginalized groups as well, but the point here was that blacks are dying in the USA. The song was released as a single on February 17, 2017. Guests Randy Blythe , Dave Mustaine and Max Cavalera (on "All Love Is Lost") participated in the recording .
At the beginning of March 2020 the seventh studio album Carnivore was released , on which some guests are represented ( Amy Lee , Jamey Jasta and Riley Gale from Power Trip ).
