Marthe Mercadier (born October 23, 1928 in Paris ) is a French film and theater actress .

Life

Marthe Mercadier mainly works in the theater, where she is mostly cast in the roles of provocative women. She had theater successes with Jacques Devals Charmante soirée , Georges Feydeau's The Flea in the Ear and Jean Poiret's Sacré Léonard .

Marthe Mercadier made her cinema debut in 1950 in the role of Mélanie in Maurice Labros Le Tampon du capiston . In 1951 she played a prostitute from Brooklyn in the crime drama Drunk Curare . This was followed by roles in Die Nacht ist mein Reich (1951), in Gilles Grangier's love drama Le Plus joli péché du monde (1951) alongside Georges Marchal and Dany Robin and in Rendez-vous à Grenade (1952). In Germany she stood in front of the camera as a teacher Madame Aubert in Girls in Uniform (1958) alongside Lilli Palmer and Romy Schneider .

In the 1960s she was used more often in film comedies, for example as Louis de Funès ' partner in Louis - The Schnatterschnauze (1961) or alongside Fernandel in Le Bon roi Dagobert (1963). As Albertine, she succumbed to the charm of the daredevil and inspector Gérard Barray in Béru and those ladies (1968). She had a leading role in the comedy Aux frais de la princesse (1969), in which the later comedy stars Jean Poiret and Michel Galabru could be seen. In the following decades, Mercadier continued to specialize in comedies such as La Coqueluche with Pierre Richard and Michel Galabru. In the 1970s, Marthe Mercadier appeared as the presenter of the TF1 cooking program La Grande cocotte with top chefs Paul Bocuse, the Troisgros brothers, Michel Guérard and Roger Vergé.

Her autobiography Le Rire est mon refuge was published in 2005. In 2011 she took part in the first season of the dance show Danse avec les stars . Marthe Mercadier has been Chevalier et Officier des Arts et Lettres since 1993 .
