Martin Achtnich (born May 20, 1918 in Winterthur , Switzerland ; † July 3, 1996 there ) was a Swiss psychologist and educator and student of Leopold Szondi .

biography

Martin Achtnich was the youngest son of a family of manufacturers who owned embroidery. He has a university degree in philosophy, education and psychology. At the same time, he also completed training at the Institute for Applied Psychology (IAP) in Zurich , where he deepened his knowledge of career advice and information, occupational diseases , characterology , depth psychology , clinical psychology , Rorschach diagnostics, graphology and psychological counseling . He wrote a doctoral thesis on "Norm values of the Kraepelin work curve for 10 to 15-year-old boys and girls and their significance for recording difficult-to-educate children".

In 1946, while studying at the IAP, he met Leopold Szondi , a Hungarian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who had sought refuge in Switzerland during World War II . Szondi taught about his test ( Szondi test ) and about fate analysis. With three other students, Achtnich was part of the first study group coordinated by Szondi.

In 1947, Achtnich began working as a professional consultant and took on an average of 450 young people per year. He remained loyal to this activity, which he carried out with great devotion throughout his life. From 1949 to 1960 he headed the Center for Careers Advice in Winterthur. In this position he developed projects of a large social scope in the field of career information.

In 1961 he began working as a professional career counselor in a private practice. There he treated people who had a professional and personal crisis or were confronted with learning and work disorders. He had acquired the theoretical basis of his work in the “Working Group on Fate Analysis and Experimental Research on Pulse” together with Leopold Szondi for three years. He was a member of the "Swiss Society for Fate Analysis Therapy" and the "Swiss Society of Psychotherapists for Children and Adolescents".

Achtnich later began working on the BBT - job profile test . The impetus was provided by Dr. Hansjörg Ringger with the idea of designing a test to clarify the professional inclination profile, taking into account the factors of the fate analysis . Following the guidance of Szondi, it was decided to create a test based on photos, as these have a greater memory power than words. The association technique developed by Freud was used to standardize the test . It took almost 20 years for the final test to be completed after five test variations and multiple studies and research.

BBT was widely accepted in Switzerland and introduced in various European countries in the mid-1980s, and was initially translated into French in Belgium in 1987. Since then, this test has been used in Belgium , France , Israel and Poland , among others .
