Martin Betzou
Martin Betzou (born April 29, 1893 in Brome ; † April 14, 1973 in Norderstedt -Harksheide, Segeberg district ) was a German painter. Along with Wolfgang Willrich and Wilhelm Petersen, he is considered one of the most important north German portrait painters of the first half of the 20th century.
Life
Betzou studied at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts and the Berlin Academy of Arts . After completing his studies, he went to Paris to study and work in the studio of the impressionist Pierre Bonnard . As a freelance artist, he first worked in Berlin and was later based in Wilhelmshaven - Rüstringen from 1917 to 1931 . The city of Wilhelmshaven bought many of his pictures for the city's collection of paintings.
