life and work

Martin Heinig was born in Husum in 1958 and went to Berlin in 1979 to study at the Berlin University of the Arts . There he was mainly a student of the painters Georg Baselitz and Wolfgang Petrick , who, along with other painters of this era such as Anselm Kiefer and Sigmar Polke, had a strong influence on his work.

After completing his studies, Heinig worked as a freelance artist in Berlin and, after initial experiments, very quickly turned to very large-format portrait painting in oil and gouache . He presents his pictures in numerous national and international exhibitions and public and private collections, especially in Germany, Canada and China.
