Martin Honert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Honert (born May 26, 1953 in Bottrop ) is a contemporary German artist . In his works, Honert primarily deals with experiences from his own childhood. Elaborately designed three-dimensional objects are created based on memories or old found objects. Atypical for artists whose work is in the tradition of the readymade , Honert always creates his works by hand.

Between 1981 and 1988 he studied at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf , most recently in the master class under Fritz Schwegler . In 1995 he designed the German pavilion at the Venice Biennale together with Katharina Fritsch and Thomas Ruff . In 1998 he received a professorship at the Dresden University of Fine Arts in the specialist class for three-dimensional work, with a focus on plastic and sculpture .

Martin Honert is represented by the renowned Matthew Marks Gallery in New York. He lives and works in Düsseldorf and Dresden.
