Martin Jakubko (born February 26, 1980 in Chminianska Nová Ves ) is a Slovak football player .
Career
In his youth Jakubko played for MFK Slovan from Sabinov and ŠK Odeva from Lipany . He had his first professional appearance in the 1999/2000 season for 1. FC Tatran Prešov . After he started hopefully there, a long dry spell followed. Only when he moved to FK Dukla Banská Bystrica in 2003 did the change come about . In the first year, the tall center forward contributed 10 goals in 18 games to the runner-up, the club's greatest success in the Corgoň league . The following year, FK Dukla came third and won the national cup .
The league success also made him interesting for the national team and so he was first used in the national jersey on November 30, 2004. Shortly thereafter, the Slovak coach Vladimír Weiss brought him from Saturn Ramenskoye to Moscow in the Russian Premier League .
However, in two and a half years he did not succeed in asserting himself at the Russian capital club. Things only got better when he went to FK Chimki for half a year , where he scored twice in 15 games. In 2009 he finally made his breakthrough at FK Moscow . He scored eight goals this season in 23 games and was then brought back by Saturn Ramenskoye. Since February 2011 he has been playing again for FK Dukla Banská Bystrica.
In the national team, Martin Jakubko was back in action in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . He scored two goals in six qualifying games. For the first time Slovakia managed to qualify for the World Cup and the center forward was also included in the World Cup line-up . As the only one of the five nominated offensive forces, he was not used in the preliminary round. His substitution shortly before the end of the round of 16 against the Netherlands came too late to avert the elimination of Slovakia.
