Martin Käfer (born November 10, 1967 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Käfer came to SC Freiburg from FV Donaueschingen in 1992 . The SC played in the 2nd Bundesliga , which this season was the first and only time in a single-track relay with 24 teams. Käfer made his debut in a 4-0 win against Hannover 96 . During the entire season he had eleven appearances and was therefore involved in winning the championship and promotion to the Bundesliga , alongside his teammates, such as goalkeeper Carsten Eisenmenger , Maximilian Heidenreich and Altin Rraklli . For Freiburg it was the first promotion to the Bundesliga. The person responsible on the sidelines was Volker Finke in the year of promotion . In the following year in the Bundesliga, Käfer played two games under coach Finke and Freiburg managed to stay in the league with 15th place.

In the summer of 1994, Käfer and his club mate Michael Pfahler moved on to the city rivals Freiburg FC , who, after being relegated from the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga, played in the fifth-rate South Baden Association League. There he played for at least two seasons among others at the side of Christian Streich and Klemens Hartenbach , the hoped-for return to the league was missed as third in the table. In 2001 he ended his active career at FC Neustadt.
