Martin Killias

Christoph Martin Killias (born March 29, 1948 in Zurich ) is a Swiss criminal lawyer .

Live and act

Killias studied law at the University of Zurich from 1967 to 1972 and sociology from 1974 to 1978 . In 1978 he received his doctorate in law and in 1980 he passed the bar exam . After a short stint at the University at Albany , he became (part-time) associate professor at the University of Lausanne in 1982 . In 1987 he became a full professor there . In 2006 the University of Zurich appointed him full professor for criminal law, criminal procedure law and criminology at the Institute of Law and Co-Director of the Institute of Criminology. He retired in 2013. Since then he has been a permanent visiting professor for criminal law, criminal procedure law and criminology at the University of St. Gallen (HSG).

Killias has held numerous visiting professorships and expert mandates. From 1984 to the end of 2008 he was a part-time federal judge . In 2000/2001 he was founding president of the European Society of Criminology .

In the 2011 and 2015 elections, he ran unsuccessfully for the National Council on the list of the SP of the canton of Aargau .

Killias is married and has three children.
