Martin Klapper

Martin Klapper (born October 12, 1963 in Prague ) is a Czech musician and multimedia artist.

Klapper began a musical career as a saxophonist, later he also used mechanical and electrical toys, self-made and toy instruments. Since the early 1980s he was active as an experimental musician. He became a member of the underground group The Die The Electric Knife ... What? whose work was severely hindered by government agencies and was a saxophonist in the hardcore punk group A / 64 from 1983 . In 1984 he co-founded the experimental trio Alfred Stratka , with whom he recorded several music cassettes.

In the same year he emigrated to Denmark. From here he went on concert tours to many European countries and the USA. His numerous musical partners included Derek Bailey , Steve Beresford , Pierre Dørge , Johannes Bergmark , Chris Burn , John Butcher , Don Byron , Rex Caswell , Mikolás Chadima , Eugene Chadbourne , Sture Ericson , Anna Homler , Jim Denley , Mihail Dresch , der Giessen Improvisers Pool , Mats Gustafsson , Erhard Hirt , Tim Hodgkinson , John Jasnoch , Catherine Jauniaux , Thomas Lehn , Radu Malfatti , Hugh Metcalfe , Phil Minton , Jeffrey Morgan , Ikue Mori , Herman Müntzing , Evan Parker , Rik Rue , John Russell , Hans Schneider , Robyn Schulkowsky , LaDonna Smith , Amanda Stewart , Raymond Strid , John Tchicai , Pat Thomas , Phil Wachsman , Matt Wand and the Wiesbaden improvisation ensemble . He worked as a duo with Jindřich Biskup for many years .

During a tour of the USA in 1995 he also performed in the New York Knitting Factory . In 1998 he was a guest at a music festival in Melbourne. In the following year he recorded the album Snapshots with trumpeter Birgit Ulher and bassist Jürgen Morgenstern . Also in the late 1990s, the album Recent Croaks was created with the British percussionist Roger Turner . Since the mid-1990s, Klapper has also been active as a filmmaker and has been involved in film and multimedia projects by other artists.
