The Oppenheimer Wäldchen nature reserve is located in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The 26 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1989 , extends east of the city of Oppenheim along the east-flowing Rhine .

The area includes alluvial forests in the floodplain of the Rhine with the Old Rhine , a former river channel and temporary bodies of water. These include shallow water zones as well as reed and reed stands .
