The Hahnheimer Bruch nature reserve is located in the districts of Alzey-Worms and Mainz-Bingen in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The 50.34 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends between the local community of Udenheim in the west and the local community of Hahnheim in the southeast. The state road L 432 runs not far to the east and north , the A 63 runs to the west .

The area includes the area of ​​the Selz lowlands with near-natural streams, ditches, woody stands, reed beds , sedge beds , wet meadows and fallow land, and arable land that is very moist.

In the last century the agricultural areas near Hahnheim went right up to the Selz, a tributary of the Rhine that was still heavily polluted at the time. The first land for renaturation bought the nature conservation organization NABU , today the Selzverband is the owner of the land. Conservationists like Siegfried Schuch , former chairman of the NABU Rhineland-Palatinate, observed in the field "with great reed beds" in 2019 more than forty species of breeding birds, including grebes , reed warbler , marsh warbler , marsh harrier , warbler and common snipe . Meanwhile the Selz in Hahnheimer Bruch is again the spawning place of numerous fish and amphibians, say other conservationists.

The Hahnheimer Bruch nature reserve is part of the bird sanctuary 6014-402, which extends along the Selztal from Hahnheim to Ingelheim. It is part of the EU-wide network of protected areas for the conservation of endangered or typical habitats and species, Natura 2000 .
