The Gau-Köngernheimer Ried nature reserve is located in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The 30 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends south of the local community of Gau-Odernheim directly to the east, adjoining Gau-Köngernheim . The state road L 406 runs not far to the west and the L 414 to the east.

In the northern area of ​​the area the Selz flows on the western edge, in the southern area it flows through the area.

The purpose of protection is the preservation and development of an ecologically significant area of ​​the Selz lowlands with a near-natural stream, reed-rich ditches, trees and shrubs including head trees, hay meadows, tall perennial and reed beds as well as moist arable areas as locations for typical and rare wild-growing plant species, habitats and partial habitats, resting and feeding areas and stepping stone biotopes for typical and rare animal species threatened in their existence as well as corresponding communities in the overall association of a biotope system that encompasses the catchment area of ​​the Selz.
