The Im Briehl / Schafwiese nature reserve is located in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The 24 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends north of the local community of Gau-Odernheim along the Selz . The state road L 436 runs not far to the west and the L 414 to the south-west.
The protection purpose is the preservation and development of an ecologically valuable Selz lowland area with a near-natural stream course, vines, woody trees, reed beds as well as moist succession and arable areas as locations for typical and rare wild-growing plant species and as a habitat and partial habitat, resting, wintering and stepping stone biotopes for typical and rare animal species that are threatened in terms of their population, as well as corresponding communities in the overall association of a networked biotope system that encompasses the catchment area of the Selz.
