The Jakobsberg is a 273 meter high mountain in Rheinhessen . It is located about seven kilometers southeast of Bingen am Rhein near Ockenheim and is one of the three “holy mountains” in the Rheinhessen hill country .

location

From Jakobsberg you can look north over the Rhine Valley into the Rheingau and the neighboring Taunus . If you turn your gaze further west, you can see the Rochusberg (242 m) near Bingen with the Rochus Chapel and the beginning of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and, further to the west, the Hunsrück . To the south extends a high plateau on which the Gau-Algesheim district Laurenziberg is located. The Westerberg lies adjacent to the east of Jakobsberg .

geology

A landslide area extends for about 4 km between the villages of Gau-Algesheim and Dromersheim. The terrain here drops in various stages of slope from 273 m to 80 m (Rhine level), initially steep (30 ° in the upper slope) then decreasingly steep (maximum 15 ° in the middle slope).

use

Right on the edge of the plateau is the Jakobsberg priory , where the diocese of Mainz operates a training center. The slope is characterized by viticulture, there is a hillside construction near Ockenheim, despite the landslides. The plateau is used for agriculture.
