The Fulder Aue – Ilmen Aue nature reserve lies in the area of Gaulsheim , Nieder-Ingelheim and Frei-Weinheim in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The 338.08 ha large nature reserve , as established by Regulation of 9 January 1995 under nature conservation has been made, the main town Bingen extends east north and northeast of Bingen district Gaulsheim. The A 60 runs along the south-eastern edge of the area and the Rhine flows along the northern edge .
The area comprises part of the Rhine lowlands in the floodplain area of the Rhine with the islands of Fulder Aue and Ilmen Aue and the bodies of water in between.
