Martin Pätzold (born September 6, 1984 in Moscow ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and honorary professor at Mittweida University. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2013 to 2017 and has been the district chairman of the CDU district association Lichtenberg in Berlin since 2011 . Since July 2020, it is the office manager of the group chairman of the CDU in the Berlin House of Representatives , Burkard Dregger .

Life

Born in Moscow as the son of a German foreign correspondent and a mother from Armenia , Pätzold first attended the German embassy school in the Russian capital. He later grew up in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg . There he was a student at the Martin-Niemöller-Grundschule and then switched to the Stauffenberg-Gymnasium at the S-Bahn station Hohenschönhausen. In 2004 he passed his general higher education entrance qualification at the Barnim Oberschule (grammar school) in Berlin-Falkenberg . From 2004 to 2010 Pätzold studied economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He completed his studies with a degree in business administration . He wrote his diploma thesis with Joachim Schwalbach and in cooperation with Deutsche Bank .

Scientific career

In 2013, at the Paetzold was TU Chemnitz on the subject of the transformation process of the Berlin economy - developments in West and East Berlin after the reunification with Ludwig Gramlich doctorate . From the summer semester 2014 to the winter semester 2015, Pätzold was a lecturer at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Arts, where he taught regional economic development . Martin Pätzold joined the Schüler Union , the Junge Union and the CDU in 2002 and was, among other things, the local chairman of the CDU Hohenschönhausen and a member of the state board of the CDU Berlin. He worked for Peter Rzepka , then a member of the German Bundestag , from 2004 to 2009. Since 2011, he has been the personal advisor to the State Secretary for Social Affairs in Berlin, Dirk Gerstle . In the Lichtenberg district he is also involved in sports, for example at TuS Hohenschönhausen, and was deputy chairman of the district sports association for many years. In Hohenschönhausen, he and the Lebensmut eV association hold clothing collections.

Since 2011, and thus for three terms in office, he has also led the CDU district association Lichtenberg as district chairman in an honorary capacity. For the CDU, he was a candidate for the CDU Lichtenberg in the Bundestag constituency of Berlin-Lichtenberg in the 2013 federal election . However, Pätzold was defeated in the traditionally left-wing Berlin district of Gesine Lötzsch ( Die Linke ) in the fight for the direct mandate and moved into the German Bundestag as a member of the German Bundestag via 7th place on the CDU state list in Berlin . Also in 2017, the Berlin CDU was voted 7th on the list for the federal election and ran as a direct candidate in the Berlin-Lichtenberg constituency. Again he was defeated by the left opponent and also missed re-entry into the Bundestag via the list.

From June 2017 to May 2019, Pätzold was state treasurer of the Berlin CDU and thus a member of the presidium of the state association of the Union.

Since July 2020 he has been the office manager of the CDU parliamentary group leader in the Berlin House of Representatives , Burkard Dregger .

He is one of the 75 Union MPs - 68 from the CDU (26.9% of all CDU MPs) and 7 from the CSU (12.5% ​​of all CSU MPs) - who voted for same-sex marriage at the end of June 2017 . His speech on recognition of the Armenian genocide also attracted attention. There he spoke of reconciliation and reconciliation and advocated building bridges between countries and people.
