Martin Schumacher (born December 16, 1945 in Wedel ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From 1975 to 1983 he was a member of the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein .

Martin Schumacher attended the Christianeum in Hamburg and the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium in Uetersen from 1953 to 1966 . He then served in the Bundeswehr until 1968 . He began studying medicine at the University of Würzburg in 1968 , but moved the following year to the University of Hamburg , where he studied political science , sociology and public law . In 1974 he graduated as a political scientist. From June 1974 to April 1975 he worked as a research assistant to the FDP parliamentary group in the Hamburg parliament .

Schumacher had become a member of the German Young Democrats in March 1965 and joined the FDP in November 1967. For his party, he worked for several years as an assessor and secretary of the board of the Wedel local association and the Pinneberg district association . In 1972 he became a member of the state board of the FDP Schleswig-Holstein and in 1975 chairman of the Pinneberg district association. He is also a member of the Education and Science Union (GEW).

In Wedel, Schumacher was a civil committee member from 1970 to 1972 and a member of the city ​​council from 1974 until he resigned his mandate there in 1975 after being elected to the state parliament. Since the local elections in May 2013, he has again been a civil member of a committee of the Wedel City Council.

In the state elections in 1975 and 1979 , he entered the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament via the FDP state list. He was a member of parliament from May 26, 1975 to April 12, 1983. In the state parliament, he was the parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group. Among other things, he was active in the submissions and social committees, and from October 1976 to December 1977 he chaired the investigative committee for the protection of the constitution. In addition, from 1979 to 1983 he was a member of the state election committee and the G10 committee of the Kiel state parliament.
