Martin Friedrich Schwab (born September 7, 1967 in Bochum ) is a German legal scholar , professor at Bielefeld University and politician ( ÖDP ).

Martin Schwab grew up as the son of the legal scholar Dieter Schwab . After graduating from high school in Regensburg , he studied law at the University of Regensburg and at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . From 1990 to 1991 he was a student assistant at Görg Haverkate . In 1991 he passed the first state law examination in Baden-Württemberg. During his legal clerkship in Baden-Württemberg from 1991 to 1994, Schwab was initially a certified research assistant, then a research assistant at Karlheinz Misera in Heidelberg. In 1994 he passed the second state examination in law. From 1994 to 1999 Schwab was a research assistant at Peter Hommelhoff in Heidelberg, where he also received his doctorate in 1997. His dissertation was entitled “Legal Issues in Policy Advice in the Field of Tension Between Academic Freedom and Corporate Protection”. From 1999 to 2002 he was a postdoctoral fellow from the German Research Foundation . In 2002 he received his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg. He then took over a professorship at Heidelberg University and at the Bucerius Law School . From 2004 Schwab was professor at the Free University of Berlin for private law , procedural law and insolvency law . From 2010 to 2013 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law.

He has been a university professor at Bielefeld University since October 2015.

Schwab is a member of the Ecological Democratic Party , for which he ran in the 1998 Bundestag election , the 2004 Heidelberg municipal election and the 2011 election for the Berlin House of Representatives . He is university and legal policy spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg state association of his party.
