Martin Thren (* 1953 in Konstanz ) is a German forest scientist . From 2005 to 2011 he was President of the HAWK University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen .

Life

After graduating from high school in Überlingen (1973), Thren studied forest science from 1974 to 1979 at the University of Freiburg . After graduating in 1979, he completed his legal clerkship from 1979 to 1981 in the state forest administration of Baden-Württemberg , at whose operational research institute he then worked as a research assistant in the forest growth department until 1984. After the department was converted into the Institute for Forest Growth, Thren worked there as a research assistant for another three years before he was appointed to the HAWK Göttingen in 1987 after completing his doctorate. His subjects were forest measurement , EDP , forest growth , silviculture and forest plant breeding.

From 1990 to 1993 Thren was on leave to work as an integrated expert contact person and professor at the Universidad Nacional de Santiago del Estero in Argentina. He was again on leave from 1997 to 2000 for a similar job in Esquel . After his return he was Dean of the Faculty of Resource Management at the HAWK in Göttingen from 2003 to 2004 . In 2005 he was elected President of the HAWK. His term of office as President ended on December 31, 2010. He was followed in this one by Christiane Dienel .
