Life and work

Voßwinkel studied from 1987 to 1991 at the Ottersberg University of Applied Sciences . In 1992 he received the Verden District Award . In 1994 he received the Art Award of the Verden District, the Culture Award of the City of Erlangen and in 2000 the recognition award of the Nürnberger Nachrichten . In 2002 he was a guest of the International Artists' Colony in Heidenheim, in 2007 he received a working grant in Berlin from the Senator for Culture of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, and in 2010 a grant from the Paul Ernst Wilke Society, Bremerhaven.

The art critic Gérard A. Goodrow (Cologne), who compares him with Yves Klein, writes about Voßwinkel's choice of materials : In addition to conventional, store-bought pigment, Martin Voßwinkel uses various natural elements to create abstract compositions, which in turn are based on patterns and combinations draw from nature. Like Yves Klein before him, Vosswinkel has entered into a close dialogue with nature and uses sand, earth, ash and oxidized metals in an attempt not to imitate nature, but rather to present it and experience it in its actual state.

Voßwinkel is the artistic director of the Ottersberg Art Prize , which is endowed with 4,000 euros and is awarded once a year.
