Martin Weinhart

Martin Weinhart (born April 13, 1963 in Eichstätt ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Martin Weinhart was born in Eichstätt in 1963 as the son of a forest director. In 1982 he graduated from the Willibald Gymnasium in his hometown. 1984–1986 he studied philosophy and ethnology at the LMU Munich . From 1986 he attended the University of Television and Film in Munich , which he graduated in 1991 with a film about Rimbaud and Verlaine ("A Time in Hell").

Since then he has been a documentary filmmaker , director and screenwriter. His first full-length feature film "Durst" was awarded the director's prize in 1993 at the Max Ophüls Festival .

From 1992 to 1996 he was a freelancer in the culture department of Bavarian television . During this time he published essayistic films on Friedrich Schiller , Richard Wagner , Thomas Mann , Ernst Jünger , August Stramm and Gabriele D'Annunzio . In 1992 he was a LiteraVision laureate for his contribution on Luis Buñuel's “Die Flecken der Giraffe”, since 1997 his productions have mainly been crime films.

In 2005 he also took part in the historical drama “Schiller” , the main ARD project for the 200th anniversary of the poet's death, with Matthias Schweighöfer in the lead role. When it was first broadcast on arte and ARD, the film reached 4.2 million viewers. Since then, several episodes of the series “Unter Verdacht” with Senta Berger and documentaries on social and religious-spiritual topics have followed.
