Martina Havenith-Newen

Martina Havenith-Newen (born April 13, 1963 in Mechernich ) is a German physicist and university professor . She is Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum and Director of the Center for Spectroscopy and Simulation of Solvent-Controlled Processes.

life and work

Havenith-Newen studied physics and mathematics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1981 to 1987 and received a diploma in physics in 1987. From 1987 to 1988 she worked during a research stay at the Department of Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley . In 1989 and 1991 she had research stays in the Department of Molecular and Laser Physics at Radboud University Nijmegen . In 1990 she did her doctorate in physics and was a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Physics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn until 1998 . In 1997 she completed her habilitation in physics and in 1998 was offered a chair for physical chemistry II at the Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2011 she has been director of the Center for Spectroscopy and Simulation of Solvent-Controlled Processes and since 2012 spokesperson for the EXC 1069 Ruhr Explores Solvation (RESOLV) Cluster of Excellence. She is married to the philosopher Albert Newen , who teaches in Bochum .
