The Martinschule Bamberg (formerly Martinvolksschule Bamberg ) is a primary school in the heart of Bamberg , right next to Little Venice . It was founded in 1886 and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2011. Since 1999 the Martinschule has been a pure elementary school. The school is named after Saint Martin , which is why the school celebrates its services in the nearby Martinskirche .
history
founding
In 1886 the Martinschule was founded as a primary school . Next to the Martinschule is the Clavius-Gymnasium , which was founded in 1794 as an engineering and drawing academy.
post war period
After the Second World War , the building was used as a military hospital for the American armed forces . During this time, the students attended the Kaulberg School near the Upper Parish . In the early 1960s years the school has been renovated from the ground up, while including new electrics and oil - central heating installed that was used mid-2015. Around this time, a swimming pool was set up in the basement, which is no longer used today.
125 years of the Martin School
In 2011 the Martinschule celebrated its 125th anniversary. Under the motto “One anniversary - two events”, the school celebrated the anniversary with a ceremony on July 7th and a school festival on July 23rd, 2011. The financing was secured by advertisers and donations from institutions and private donors .

Since the secondary school housed in the same building was closed, the Clavius-Gymnasium has been using its rooms.
The primary school uses two of the three floors in the left wing of the Martin building. A hall built by the Bamberg city building officer Wilhelm Schmitz in 1914 serves as the gym, and is connected to the school by a connecting wing across the schoolyard . It is also used in the evenings by a gymnastics club for schoolchildren. The Sprengel school extends since 1945 almost the entire northern island city and partly beyond. Many of the students come from the Mayersche Gärtnerei development area.
A modern IT room has been available to the school since 2009 . In 2010, 2012 and 2013 the school received the CC Buchner Prize from the school book publisher of the same name ( CC Buchner Verlag ) for three projects that dealt with the city's history.
Redevelopment
In March 2012, two emergency stair towers were erected on the Martin building to serve as a second escape route in the event of a fire. By December 2012, the Hinterer Graben street received a new asphalt surface layer and the cycle path in Kapuzinerstraße was separated from the flow of traffic by a cordon. In February 2013, the containers that had previously been in the schoolyard and used by the Clavius-Gymnasium were dismantled.
Since March 2013, the school yard has been halved and the playground integrated there dismantled. A connection between the Martinschule and the Clavius-Gymnasium is currently being built and the part in the Martin building used by the Gymnasium is being renovated. Since the part used by the primary school and the second floor of the Martin building will be renovated at the beginning of the 2015/16 school year, the primary school will move into the containers used by the Clavius grammar school at the nearby city archive in the current school year .

In the 2014/15 school year , twelve teachers and a Catholic pastor are teaching six primary school classes with around 150 students .

Culture.classes
Since the school year 2011/12, the 2nd grades have been involved in the Kultur.K Klassen project of the Bamberg Cultural Office. The aim is to firmly anchor cultural education in everyday school life.
Projects and theater
The school provides contributions to the school theater days and runs a theater group . In other projects she deals with ETA Hoffmann and cooperates with Lebenshilfe Bamberg, where a mosaic picture that hangs on the first floor of the building was created.
Lunch care
Schoolchildren can attend midday care in Mittamar in the school building until 2 p.m. There you can get a healthy snack or warm meals.
School fruit program
Since the 2010/11 school year, students have received free fresh fruit and vegetables once a week as part of a project funded by the European Union .
Others
In individual subjects, the school takes part in various national and international offers for possible projects.
The school cooperates with the Bamberg Municipal Music School and can thus offer optional, paid music lessons. She also takes part in painting competitions.
