Marty Napoleon (born June 2, 1921 in Brooklyn , New York City , † April 27, 2015 in Glen Cove , New York ) was an American pianist and bandleader of old-time jazz and swing .

Marty Napoleon was the brother of Teddy and the nephew of Phil Napoleon .

He played early in his career in 1941 with Bob Astor and in 1942 with Chico Marx (together with Barney Kessel and George Wettling ). He then worked with Georgie Auld , Joe Venuti , Charlie Barnet and in other bands. In 1946 he took over from his brother at Gene Krupa and His Orchestra , then worked for his uncle Phil in his original Memphis Five formation , in 1950 with Charlie Ventura and in 1951 with The Big Four (with Ventura, Buddy Rich and Chubby Jackson ). 1952/53 he played with Louis Armstrong's All Stars, where he replaced Earl Hines . After that, Napoleon had his own ensemble, with which he performed at the club The Metropole in New York. At times he worked with Charlie Shavers and Coleman Hawkins in the late 1950s . In 1959 he had his own trio. From 1966 to 1971 he appeared again with Louis Armstrong, where he replaced the late Billy Kyle . Napoleon died on April 27, 2015 near his home in Glen Cove at the age of 93.
