Marx21 (proper spelling marx21) is a Trotskyist organization within the party Die Linke , which is close to the tradition of the International Socialist Tendency . With around 300 members, it is not an association within the party that is recognized by the party executive of the Left.

Emergence

On September 1, 2007, a Linksruck delegates' conference in Frankfurt am Main decided to formally dissolve the organization. This was the result of a discussion process that began in the months before the merger of the PDS and WASG to form Die Linke. The following day, those present, including delegates from the conference, decided to found Marx21.

Characteristic

Marx21 describes itself as a "network around the magazine marx21 ". The magazine appears four times a year. There are continuities in terms of personnel and content with the forerunner organization Linksruck. The network insists on anti-imperialist positions, opposes the participation of the Left Party in governments, calls for “socialism from below” and sees itself in a revolutionary tradition. Members of Marx21 are involved in the movement critical of peace and globalization . During the Arab Spring , Marx21 brought down the governments of Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria and the like. a. supported. Military interventions by NATO countries are massively criticized.

Once a year, members of the association organize the Marx Is Must Congress in Berlin.

Assessment by the protection of the constitution

The protection of the constitution sees the goal of the organization in the "establishment of a communist social order".

The Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies Marx21 as an openly extremist association. In 2011, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified Marx21 as a left-wing extremist association and “most active Trotskyist organization”. It also accuses Marx21 of entryism .

According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Marx21 was part of the International Socialist Tendency in 2011 . However, this statement does not emerge from Marx's own account21. According to the International Socialist Tendency, Marx21 is in their tradition, but has not been a member since the dissolution of Linksruck .

Background and strategy

The Trotskyist organization Linksruck was seen as a representative of the strategy of entryism . With the founding of the WASG , Linksruck members began to get more involved in the association and the later party in order to represent their positions there. In contrast to the SAV , Linksruck also advocated cooperation with all parts of the Linkspartei.PDS , including the Berlin state association, which he (also) strongly criticized.

Influence in the party Die Linke

Marx21 primarily aims to influence one of the party's larger currents, the Socialist Left . The commitment follows a fundamental decision of the founding conference on September 2, 2007. Marx21 is represented by Stefanie Graf in the group of speakers of the movement.

There is also greater overlap with the student association Die Linke.SDS . There are sometimes several members of the federal executive committee members of Marx21. With Luigi Wolf, the network provided the first managing director who is no longer in office.

Janine Wissler and Christine Buchholz belong to the party executive of the Left . Both write regularly for marx21 magazine .

A participation of Marx21 or former Linksruck members in the state executive boards and higher bodies of the left can be found mainly in the old federal states . a. Nicole Gohlke in the state board of Bavaria. In 2007, Max Steininger, Gohlke's former constituency employee in Munich, was elected a Marx21 member for two years to the federal spokesman's council of Linksjugend 'solid . In contrast, participation is lower in the new federal states , but Marx21 was represented on the state boards of Saxony and Thuringia.

Marx is a must congress

Since Linksruck was dissolved and re-established as Marx21, Marx21 has organized multi-day congresses in Berlin once a year with the title Marx is Must , in which, in addition to its own Left Party members and MPs, other prominent Left Party members and MPs also take part as speakers. In 2007, for example, "several representatives of the left wing of the party [...], including MEP Sahra Wagenknecht , spokesperson for the Communist Platform, as well as MPs Sevim Dagdelen from North Rhine-Westphalia and Werner Dreibus from Hesse." and a Marx is Must Congress in Vienna in 2019 .

Publications

The organization Marx 21 publishes the magazine marx21 , which has been available in normal kiosk shops since 2013. The magazine is a cooperation partner of the Internet portal Linksnet . Marx21 members are not only active in their own publication organ of the same name, but also in publications of the party Die Linke . The network also regularly publishes its own theory brochures under Edition Aurora. Once a year, " Theory21" is a summary of the debates within the network on individual topics and the like. a. on trade unions, racism and the state. Theory brochures from the IST tradition are also published regularly.
