Mary Margaret McBride (born November 16, 1899 in Paris , Missouri , † April 7, 1976 in West Shokan , New York ) was an American writer , journalist and radio presenter , who was mainly known for her daily radio broadcast for more than 40 years talk shows The Martha Deane Show and The Mary Margaret McBride Show .

Life

After attending William Woods College in Fulton , she studied journalism at the University of Missouri and graduated in 1919 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Journalism). She then became a reporter at Cleveland Press and then, in 1920, assistant to the advertising editor at Interchurch World Movement . Immediately thereafter, she became a reporter for the New York Evening Mail in 1920 and stayed there until 1934.

In 1934 she switched to the radio and got her first own radio show, The Martha Deane Show , which she moderated until 1940. In 1937 she took over with The Mary Margaret McBride Show, her second radio talk show, which she hosted until her death. In the course of her long career, these programs ran on radio stations WOR (AM), WGHQ, CBS , ABC and NBC .

For her services she received a "Star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the radio category , which is located at 7018 Hollywood Boulevard.

  • Through her experience as a radio presenter, she wrote her first book in 1936, entitled Here's Martha Deane . This was followed by her memoir How Dear to My Heart (1940) and the equally autobiographical books America for Me (1941), A Long Way from Missouri (1959) and Out of the Air (1960).
  • She also wrote the two youth books Tune in for Elizabeth (1945) and The Growing Up of Mary Elizabeth (1966).
