The Maschbach , colloquially known as the Bäckerbach , is an approximately 2.6 km long tributary of the Shamlah in the Westerode and Bettingerode districts of the city of Bad Harzburg in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony .

The Maschbach rises at an altitude of 261 m above sea level. NHN am Butterberg immediately north of the K 42 (Bad Harzburg - Westerode). The river bed has been preserved for the first 400 meters, but the water itself is piped. At 51 ° 54 ' N , 10 ° 34' O of the mash stream comes to light the first time. In a deep aisle and with a strong loamy bed, the water flows northeast towards Westerode; At this point its structure shows clear characteristics of a loess-loam-shaped lowland brook .
After about one kilometer, the Maschbach enters the local area of Westerode. Here it feeds the village pond and then flows north through the village. About 1.5 kilometers further the Maschbach flows into Bettingerode and flows into the Shamlah in the center of the village.

- The Maschbach is crossed by the Maschweg in Westerode and flows through the Maschfeld and In der Masch corridors , where Masch stands for damp lowlands.
